Vox Rationis Savannah
Vox Rationis Savannah is FEFC’s very own speech and debate club. The club is coached by Cyndi Mullins, who is a member of the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association. NCFCA is a national Christian organization that believes that “formal speech and debate can provide a means for homeschooled students to learn and exercise analytic and oratorical skills, addressing life issues from a biblical worldview in a manner that glorifies God”. We meet only during the fall semester on Wednesdays. Students may choose speech only, which is from 1-3 PM. Debaters must do speech AND debate. Debate meets from 3-4 PM. The style of debate for our club is Lincoln Douglas Value Debate. We aim to meet 12 times before we end in December. Membership is limited in number so that every student has sufficient opportunities to practice during our club meetings. Students must be between the ages of 12 and 18 on September 1st. They must be homeschooled, and their families must be members of Family Education for Christ. Speech and debate club is not a spectator sport! Public speaking skills are learnable, but they require preparation and participation. Students should prepare assignments each week and expect to speak in every club meeting. Students are not required to join NCFCA, but are encouraged to join to league and compete in tournaments starting in December. More information about the league is available at www.NCFCA.org.
